Goldsmiths’ Fair Digital - Day 12

Last day of @goldsmithsfair online. It has been wonderful to see so many incredible films about makers’ inspirations and processes and to see their work and also to watch and be part of the many talks that have happened during the last 13 days. I don’t usually make bracelets or bangles and made this dramatic oxidised silver and gold Folium moving leaves bracelet for this year’s Fair. Bracelets like rings can be seen all the time when being worn! Definitely going to make more!

Video of how Mutabilis rings work:

Unique rings which have been awarded a design number with the Intellectual Property Office. Each ring comes apart allowing the moving centre band to be worn separately, interchanged or worn in a different combination with the two outer rings. These rings do make perfect wedding and engagement rings, the engagement ring can be made larger just before the wedding. For that special occasion a new centre band can be added.

Goldsmiths' Fair Digital - Day 8

Here is a brief look at the display in my workshop. Normally we would be spending the week talking to clients and sharing stories and ideas with other makers in the sumptuous surroundings of Goldsmiths Hall. However this year Goldsmiths Fair has created an outstanding website which includes not only detailed images of silversmith and jewellery but much more about makers and their processes and some inspiring talks from
makers, curators and writers so do register free online:

Showing here one of my very pretty and fresh gold vermeil on silver pendants which has a Keshi pearl. I love these pearls, they are all unique in shape and irridesence.

More on the magic of pearls:
Keshi (Japanese for ‘poppy seed’) pearls are entirely composed of nacre, having no nucleus bead so they tend to have a higher lustre. Nacre laid down in the oyster shell is a combination of calcium carbonate and protein which is both lighter and stronger than concrete. They can be cultivated in all types of clams.
Pearls generally can take up to 7 years to form. It is thought that a pearl of value is found in less than 1 in 10,000 wild pearl oyster. To see more pictures visit:

Keshi pearl, petrified coral and diamond earrings at Goldsmiths' Fair

These keshi pearl and petrified coral earrings with diamonds are on the Goldsmiths’ Fair website and are unique. Although I have said petrified coral I think they are actually a fossilised Bryozoan which is an organism separate to coral which lives in warm seas and coral reefs and becomes fossilised by infilling with quartz or calcite. I think that means they are millions of years old, which is hard to contemplate! I’ll be posting more of my jewellery at Goldsmiths Fair tomorrow at 2.30 pm on IGTV.
